Quandant seal Q QUANDANT CONSOLIDATED SYNERGIES GROUP EST. 1819

Two Hundred Years in Business

Quandant Consolidated Synergies Group was founded in 1819 as Quandant & Sons Canal Freight, moving grain and dry goods along the region's newly built canal network. Over the next two centuries, the company expanded into railroads, financial trusts, broadcasting, industrial manufacturing, and — more recently — consumer subscriptions and digital assets. Through each transition, the company has maintained what it describes as a consistent core identity, even as very little about the business has stayed the same.

Quandant is, by most measures, an unusually old company. Its continued operation through six major economic downturns and numerous shifts in prevailing management philosophy is something the company references often, and explains rarely.

Bertrand Halloway III is the seventh generation of his family to run Quandant Consolidated Synergies Group, a company that predates the income tax, the light bulb, and most of its own current subsidiaries. He holds that a company's history is best understood not as a record but as "a direction we've been confirming for a while." Under his leadership, the firm has added divisions in wellness, subscription retail, and digital assets, while continuing to operate several businesses — freight, commercial real estate, packaged snacks — largely unchanged since his great-great-grandmother's tenure. He communicates with staff primarily through internal memos, several of which have since been referenced in unrelated litigation.
